"Web Based ERP is an exotic subject amongst the CFO’s, CEO’s and CTO’s of the corporate world. Adding to the confusion are so called consultants who sell static legacy software under the pretext of ERP and then are some giant database companies which sell only their database fancily packaged as General Ledge systems which encompasses all aspects of business. 9 Common Myths about Web Based ERP systems
Once upon a time there was a wise old man who used to earn his means by providing account writing services to firms across the business district. He was a revered man as he was the main person who knew the finances in and out of a firm, even better then the owner, since he was holding the key to the business .. the knowledge of company’s capital in flows and out flows and knew where exactly the company stood.
He was the sacred Munimji… who sometimes used to work for one firm but more often than not used to also work on the side (part time) for other competitor firms and used to visit their firms either on week ends or after his 9 hours were over at his main work place.
The Munimji or the Accountant who is now replaced by the Chartered accountant used to write the accounts in big books known as "Chopda" or large leather bound ruled ledgers and he used to burn mid night oil to tally to the last cent or paise as the case may have been.

For years firms used to have two sets of accounts one on books written manually and one on computers as man still did not trust machines, and that was valid to some extent as machines were clumsy often tended to break down and usually had to be coaxed to start and work properly.
However, as technology evolved, more people became computer literate more computer systems were bought and the computer were being more reliable day by day and they became faster, people slowly did away with manual accounting books. And then came the explosion of simple double entry book keeping systems by the dozens.
A few of those systems are in existence even today after 2 decades or more albeit they have changed their external appearance but underneath the same old DOS based engine is chugging away merrily.
